Vang Vien (12th December, of Kayaking, swingings and getting waaaay drunk)
I woke up at 5a.m, it felt like I have slept a long time. The woman beside me was still sound asleep in her dreamland. I slept somemore, waiting for the day to break and the adventure to begin. Gloria woke up at 7.30, thinking it was 8.30 already; she forgot she's in Laos and Laos is one hour behind Singapore. She jumped about for nothing. We had a quick wash and headed to the meeting area. We bought breakfast, some kind of egg and chicken sandwitch but all we tasted was eggs. We sat infront of the tuk tuk with the morning air brushing by us as we travel.
We reached the river and took quite a long walk to the cave. While waiting for our turns to tube in the cave, we sat around, played with duckies and got to know people. There were a few very noisy Aussies and Ireland guys, 1 South African couple, 1 USA couple, a group of Thai people and us. The water was freezing cold when we got it. The cave was nothing spectacular but still interesting. Tons of flies and who knows what in the water. It was hard getting our way through around the cave, so most of the time we hung on the guide to glide on. After tubing, we had BBQ for lunch and my first beer lao in Laos.
After tubing we move on to kayaking in Nam Song River. The whole journey was about 10km with stops in between. The river was nice with currents once in a while. We stopped by 2 places for swing jumpings and the sliding. I went on 2 swings and the last one nearly killed me. It was nearly 3 stories high, we swang out like tarzan and then let go and fall into the water. I fell with my butt hitting the water first, imagine the pain! The swing jumping was fun, but somehow I wasn't ready for it... Next time!! My girlfriend, Gloria, was crazy. She went on both swings and the slide! We beer lao-ed some more at those stations before kayaking the rest of the way back. We got stucked half way and the guides have to come pick us up :P I think we were the most troublesome pair that day.
The Thai guys wanted to go Smile Bar that night for the full moon party. Since it's my first time into such party, might as well follow. Furthermore I'm travelling with a party girl. We dinnered at a local eatery, sitting by the road sit sipping hot noodles and soup in the cold. We took some time to find Smile Bar and when we did, it wasn't as crazy as expected. We found the Thai people, joined their huts and the drinking began.
Whisky bucket for 10 000 kips (SD1.80), the same for the rest of the booze and beer. We bought a few buckets to share, by the end of those buckets I was a little shagged already (not forgetting we were beer lao-ing the whole day). Then Gloria went on to order shots for everyone. The poison that killed me? Some really strong shot that smelled like the candy I hated in Iceland. I was floating by then and threw chunks after. Gloria met another guy she met in Vientiane and I remembered going forward and say, "No! She's my girlfriend you know?" I was really getting off my feet and Gloria had to send me back straight. It took quite a while. I didn't want to go back, wanted to go somewhere, fooled around, showed her I could walk and even run straight, sat on the road and Glor even had to tackle me back. Damn, when I'm that drunk. So drunk, but I still manage to take off my contact lens and head to bed. The rest was history or I remember nuts about it. It was damn stupid of me, so so so stupid to think about it now. But then, whatever happends stays in that country. Thank goodness Glor is a good drinker. I remember saying to her, "You're not drunk? You're good!"
And then I slept..
